Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College presents as a public service the following
listing of war dead of the State of Mississippi in the wars of the 20th Century through Vietnam.
The listing was originally published in 1996 under the title Valor Remembered.
The Veterans Affairs Board of the State of Mississippi supplied the microfilm and other
documents from which the lists were taken. I estimate that the WWI death list is about 70
percent correct, the WWII list is about 90 percent correct, and those of Korea and Vietnam are
about 97 percent correct.
The user is cautioned to read the introduction to Valor Remembered, the
explanation of each section used, and the appendices. Those users who do not
do this will find only about one-half of the dead from their counties. This is
especially true of WWII because the Army dead is listed one place and the
Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard dead are listed in a completely different
section.
State Veterans Affairs Board Executive Director Adrian Grice sent a letter to
me on February 24, 2006. That letter, which follows, was the impetus that
resulted in MGCCC publishing Valor Remembered on the world wide web.
