Description	From the George A. Owens Papers. This letter, on American Friends Service Committee letterhead, refers to a speech that Dr. Beittel gave at a meeting of the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Beittel refers to this speech, given in 1949, as instrumental in the eventual merger of the SACSS and the Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools for Negroes. Beittel tells Owens that a copy of the speech belongs in the Tougaloo archives." A five-page copy of the speech, entitled "Knocking at the Door" is appended to the letter.
