Description	From the Rankin (Annie) Papers. Three-page handwritten letter signed Mr. and Mrs. Judge Rankin to Mrs. F.M. Stewart dated September 5, 1967. Rankin writes that newspapers have not been available for purchase by African Americans in Jefferson County since the elections concluded. She writes that all the African American candidates lost the election and an appeal has been made to the President for new elections. Rankin writes of appearing on television talking about how African Americans had been treated at the polling stations and of her husband's case in Washington, D.C. (related to welfare benefits). Plans are being made for boycotts in six counties in Mississippi (Marshall, Copiah, Claiborne, Jefferson, Adams, and Wilkinson) where it is the belief that unfairness resulted in losses by African American candidates.
