Title	Mississippi Action for Progress receives $3 million Head Start grant
Description	From the McRee (James F.) Papers. News release from the Office of Economic Opportunity in Washington D.C. announcing a grant of $3,020,906 awarded to Mississippi Action for Progress (MAP) to conduct a full year Head Start program for 1500 children in Mississippi. Sargent Shriver, Director of OEO, said $10 million in all has been reserved to finance MAP child development programs. MAP will be administered by an 18-member bi-racial board of directors, headed by Owen Cooper and Reverend Merrill W. Lindsey. Shriver also mentioned that 13 agencies have been funded to operate child development projects within Mississippi, emphasizing that no one organization would have a monopoly.
