Description	From the Bates (Gladys Noel) Papers. Typewritten letter from Robert L. Carter to W.A. Bender on letterhead of the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, dated January 30, 1951. Carter outlines the situation of the lawsuit to gain equal pay for African American teachers in Mississippi, the reasons for his strategy, and a similar lawsuit in Atlanta, Georgia. Carter stresses the need for more intervening plaintiffs to join the lawsuit. He also writes about the increased salary budget in Mississippi for teachers and that if the lawsuit is not pursued until its final conclusion, the increased budgets may not be renewed by the Legislature.
