Description	From the Bates (Gladys Noel) Papers. Typewritten letter from Robert L. Carter to James A. Burns on letterhead of the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, dated March 2, 1949. Carter outlines the situation of the lawsuit to gain equal pay for African American teachers in Mississippi and the importance of enlisting another African American teacher who is under contract to teach so that the case can continue. As Gladys Noel Bates was no longer employed as a teacher in the Jackson, Mississippi, schools, she was no longer able to obtain an injunction against dismissal of the case.
