Description	From the Bates (Gladys Noel) Papers. Typewritten letter from Robert L. Carter to Gladys Bates on letterhead of the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, dated October 10, 1951. Carter writes that the U.S. Supreme Court denied the petition for a writ of certiorari and will not hear the lawsuit to equalize pay of African American teachers in Mississippi. The only course of action for the Mississippi Association of Teachers in Colored Schools, according to Carter, is to begin the lawsuit again with a new plaintiff following appeals for equal pay to the local and state school officials.
