Description	From the Bates (Gladys Noel) Papers. Typewritten letter from A.L. Johnson, president of the Mississippi Association of Teachers in Colored Schools (MATCS), on association letterhead, to A.J. Noel, dated December 22, 1947. Johnson writes of the association's disappointment over the withdrawal of a person who had contemplated becoming the plaintiff in a lawsuit being planned to attempt to gain equal pay for African American teachers in Mississippi. Johnson urges Noel to take on the responsibility for selection of an attorney to lead the lawsuit.
